Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar hosts the fifth Gender Equity and Inclusion Workshop, 26-28 November 2019
WISCOMP (an initiative of the), in collaboration with Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences, Bhubaneswar organized a workshop for the faculty and senior management team, titled “Gender Equity and Inclusion: Transformative Pathways in Higher Education in India” on 26-28 November 2019 in Bhubaneswar. The workshop aimed to build a cohort of engaged ‘animators’ who are committed to proactively engage to make campuses gender-just by raising awareness, tracking progress, maximizing the reach of the gender-sensitization processes. It will also facilitate the designing of a Gender Audit template by the participants for their campus. Over a period of three days, the participants deliberated on various ways to re-envision their campus through a gender lens. The participants included faculty members from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad, Rama Devi College, and other colleges in and around Bhubaneswar. It also brought together students and Ph.D. scholars from KIIT and KISS.

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar hosts WISCOMP’s Gender Equity and Inclusion: Transformative Pathways in Higher Education workshop on 17-19 September 2019.
WISCOMP organized its fourth workshop on ‘Gender, Equity and Inclusion: Transformative Pathways in Higher Education’ at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (KMV), Jalandhar on 17-19 September 2019. The workshop was conducted as a part of WISCOMP’s ‘Hamsa: Campus Equity Initiative’ which seeks to facilitate and institutionalize gender-just norms and practices at higher educational institutions. The initiative is supported by the Public Affairs Section, US Embassy in New Delhi.
The participants at the workshop included faculty and senior management administrators from KMV and other colleges and universities in the vicinity including Punjabi University, Patiala, Cordia College, Sanghol, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Guru Nanak National University, Nakodar, and State Police Academy, Punjab. In addition, it drew participation of students from KMV as Observers. Faculty members and research scholars from Ambedkar University, Delhi also participated at the workshop. Several eminent feminist scholars and gender experts from India and the US shared the experiences and learnings with the participants.
On the second day, students from KMV actively engaged in the discussion on the possibilities of using media to deconstruct gender stereotypes at the concurrent workshop, GenderTalk.

Gender Equity and Inclusion: Transformative Pathways in Higher Education at Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts, Pune; 22-24 August
This three-day workshop was organized in collaboration with Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts, Pune as part of the WISCOMP project ‘HAMSA: Campus Equity Initiative’, supported by the Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy, New Delhi.
The workshop aimed to build a cohort of engaged ‘animators’ who are committed to proactively engage to make campuses gender-just by raising awareness, tracking progress, and maximizing the reach of the gender-sensitization processes. It facilitated the designing of Gender Audit templates by the participants for their campuses. The workshop participants included faculty members from Symbiosis Group of Institutions, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai and other colleges in and around Pune. It also brought together student representatives and researchers from Symbiosis School of Liberal Arts.

Glimpses from WISCOMP’s Second Gender Equity and Inclusion Workshop at Cotton University, Guwahati

WISCOMP in partnership with Cotton University, Guwahati conducted a three-day dialogue-cum-training workshop for faculty, senior administrators and students on ‘Gender Equity and Inclusion: Transformative Pathways in Higher Education’, at the university from 11-14 March 2019. The workshop was supported by Public Affairs Section, US Embassy, New Delhi. Eminent gender experts and educators from the US and across India facilitated the participatory workshop, with participation drawn from Jadavpur University, TISS Guwahati, Guwahati University and other higher education institutes in and around Guwahati. It also included student representatives and researchers from Cotton University as observers. A Concurrent workshop was conducted with the undergraduate and post-graduation students of the Cotton University on masculinities, gender and media, safety audit through Safetipin App.

First Workshop held at St. Teresa’s College, Kochi.

WISCOMP in partnership with St. Teresa’s college, Kochi conducted a four-day dialogue-cum-training workshop for faculty, senior administrators and students on ‘Gender Equity and Inclusion: Transformative Pathways in Higher Education’, at the college from 5-8 January 2019. The workshop was supported by the Public Affairs Section, US Embassy, New Delhi.
The project is a first-ever unique and innovative pan-India initiative on developing templates for Gender Audits in college and university campuses across India. The workshop built an engaged cohort of senior management, faculty, and students who are committed to collaboratively making their campus gender-just and inclusive by raising awareness, tracking progress on the many parameters of gender equity and justice on campus, and maximizing the reach of gender-sensitization processes. Eminent gender experts and educators from the US and across India facilitated the participatory workshop, with participation
drawn from Loyola College, Chennai, and other colleges in Coimbatore and Kochi.

WISCOMP initiated the HAMSA Project with the Coordinators’ Meeting in October 2018!

WISCOMP facilitated a Consultative Meeting on ‘Hamsa: Campus Equity Initiative’ on 13 October 2018, which brought together development practitioners, academicians, lawyers, policy makers and representatives from various universities across the country. WISCOMP envisions to draw on its wide network of educational institutions and think tanks to facilitate and institutionalize gender-just norms and practices at HEIs.
